Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev was a special guest at the 26th Annual Ambassadors’ Seder organized by the American Jewish Committee (AJC)

On March 22nd, 2018, Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev was a special guest at the 26th Annual Ambassadors’ Seder that marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Passover. Ms. Toby Dershowitz, AJC Washington President and Mr. Jason Isaacson, AJC Executive Director for Policy and Managing Director of Government and International Affairs delivered opening remarks. 

In his address Ambassador Stoytchev spoke about the 75th anniversary of the historic rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust. He emphasized the power of civil society in Bulgaria and the leadership role of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Dimitar Peshev, Metropolitan Stefan of Sofia, and Metropolitan Kirill of Plovdiv who opposed the deportation. It was highlighted that the story of Bulgarian rescue is an example of courage and compassion demonstrated by the Bulgarian people and a lesson for the contemporary world.
