Concert at the Bulgarian Embassy dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews

On March 8th, 2018, the Bulgarian Embassy hosted a concert which commemorated the 75th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust during the World War II. The artists, Bella Hristova (violin) and Amy Young (piano), performed repertoire by the composers Francis Poulenc, David Ludwig, Paul Ben-Haim, Maurice Ravel and Johannes Brahms.

Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev opened the concert highlighting the power of civil society, which prevented the deportation of the Bulgarian Jews.

A number of distinguished guests attended the event: Mr. Daniel Mariaschin, Executive Vice President of B’nai B’rith International, Ms. Toby Derschowitz, AJC Washington President and Dr. Alexander Mark, AJC Washington Vice President, Mr. Mark Levin, Executive Vice Chairman of the National Coalition Supporting Eurasian Jewry, Mr. Michael Uyehara, Senior Adviser for Holocaust Issues at the State Department and Mr. Neal Glick, who contributed to the renaming of the street intersection adjacent to the Bulgarian Embassy “Dimitar Peshev Plaza”.

The special presence of Mrs. Bilhah Bryant, 84-year-old Holocaust survivor of Bulgarian origin was also recognized. The concert was organized in cooperation with “The Embassy Series”.
