Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev visited Chicago and Cincinnati

Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev visited Chicago (Illinois) and Cincinnati (Ohio) on the occasion of celebrating the National Day and the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev and Consul General in Chicago Ivan Anchev were also part of the celebrations.

In Chicago, Ambassador Stoytchev took part in the traditional Bulgarian flag raising ceremony at “Daley Plaza”, followed by performances by students of the Bulgarian schools in the area. The Bulgarian delegation met with Mrs. Leslie Munger, Illinois Deputy Governor; Mr. Robert Rivkin, Deputy Mayor of Chicago and Mr. Ivo Daalder, President of Chicago Council on Global Affairs. They also visited the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center and held a meeting with the American Jewish Committee regional leadership.

In Cincinnati, Ambassador Stoytchev took part in „Baba Marta“ festival organized by the Bulgarian Association of Cincinnati and had a meeting with Mr. David Mann, City Council Member. The Program also included a meeting with Mr. Neville Pinto, President of the University of Cincinnati; a round table on “The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Future of Europe” and a meeting with the Bulgarian academic community.

A Bulgarian section of books donated by the Bulgarian Association was unveiled at the Public Library of Cincinnati.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War II, the exhibition “The Power of Civil Society during the Holocaust: The Bulgarian Story 1940-1944 was opened at the Xavier University.
