1BGN = 1DEM. Bulgaria is under Currency Board Regime since July 1st 1997: Bulgarian new lev (BGN) is pegged to German mark and Euro and is 100% convertible to German mark. The US dollar value however is determined by the market and is currently about BGN 2.1 = US$1.
