AMBASSADORS USA ROADSHOW - May 2-11, 2007 - “U.S. and Bulgaria – New EU Member, New Opportunities” |

This is a momentous year for Bulgaria, and for the U.S.- Bulgarian relationship. Last year we spoke about “the springtime for the U.S.- Bulgarian economic relations,” as we saw a remarkable surge in U.S. investor interest and a series of major American investments in the Bulgarian economy. This year Bulgaria joined the European Union and on January 1st became part of the U.S.- EU commercial relationship, the largest trading relationship in the world. Bulgaria’s remarkable record of success: joining NATO in 2004, concluding a U.S.- Bulgarian Defense Cooperation Agreement in 2006, and a Bilateral Investment Treaty to Avoid Double Taxation early in 2007 has deepened the strategic partnership between our two countries. The current political and economic ties between Bulgaria and the USA, the strongest in the more than 100 years of diplomatic relations, have boosted the investors’ interest and confidence in the Bulgarian economy. Today, the largest foreign investor in Bulgaria is a U.S. company- AES Corp., the largest real estate investor in Bulgaria is a U.S. firm- GE Commercial Finance Real Estate, and our bilateral trade continues to break records. The member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria are helping to create a new Bulgaria that will be more prosperous, more productive, more innovative, and more competitive in European markets, raising standards of living and creating new jobs and opportunities for young Bulgarians.
We are confident that the political and business partnership between Bulgaria and the United States will grow and prosper in years to come. The economic potential of Bulgaria is enormous, creating real opportunities for growth and profits.
We hope that if you take a closer look at Bulgaria: you will like what you will see.
