Requirements for shipment of deceased

The body of the deceased should be embalmed and placed within a wooden casket, which in turn is to be put in a hermetically sealed outer shipping box.

The shipment must be accompanied by:

• a death certificate,

• certificate of embalming and

• a document certifying that the deceased had not had contagious diseases.

If the body has already been cremated the urn with the cremated remains must be accompanied by:

• a death certificate and

• a certificate of cremation.

All the documents should be notarized by the Consular Service of the Embassy of Bulgaria and have a certified translation in Bulgarian.

The Funeral Homes are requested to mail these documents to the Consular Service with an enclosed self-addressed prepaid envelope.

The consular procedure (notarizing and translation) is free of charge.
